Heart health is intrinsically intertwined with success in it’s many forms, but most notably success in life. The definition of success is different to each individual. For some, success lies in money. For others, success lies in family. And, still for others success lies in business. There is a new driving definition for success, promoted by thought leaders like Arianna Huffington, Richard Branson and even Steve Jobs.
How do you define success?
Success and Heart Health
Arianna Huffington defines success as something “that goes beyond the two metrics of money and power, and consists of four pillars: well-being, wisdom, wonder, and giving.”
According to the great Maya Angelou, “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”
Spiritual teacher Deepak Chopra believes success is a matter of constant growth. “Success in life could be defined as the continued expansion of happiness and the progressive realization of worthy goals,” Chopra writes in “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success.”
Successful people define success in many different ways. One thing that you’ll find in common between all of these CEO’s and successful entrepreneurs is health and well being. Taking time out for yourself, for your health, is one detail that every ‘successful’ person will tell you.
Time For Yourself
You’re running around like a crazy person. You’re managing your own business, raising kids, being a good husband or wife, and so much more. You wear many hats and juggle many balls. Is this what makes you successful? Getting through the day in one piece? I think not.
Today, with so many details of our lives causing stress and perpetuating poor heart habits, it’s insanely important that you take time out for yourself. Here are some tips to taking a moment for yourself every day:
Meditation: Jump on Youtube and look up Meditation for Relaxation, Meditation for Anxiety, Meditation for Empowerment, or Meditation for Happiness. There are hundreds and thousands of 10 to 15 minutes Meditation exercises that will take you away from this world for a short time, give your body a moment to breathe, give your heart a moment to rest, and give your mind a moment to clear. Trust me, practice with those 10 to 15 minutes a day and you will thank me later.
Yoga: Again, jump on Youtube and look up Yoga for Neck Pain, Yoga for Stress, Yoga for Back Pain, or Yoga to Relax. Just like meditation videos, there are thousands of short 10 to 15 minute yoga videos that are truly amazing. They will maximize those few minutes and give you a new piece of mind to tackle the day.
Walk: How long would a walk around the blog take? Maybe 15 minutes? Maybe 30 minutes? This is hugely beneficial for not only your heart health but your mind and spirit.
Read: Even taking 30 minutes out of your busy day at the end or during lunch to pick up a good book and let your mind wander can lower blood pressure and decrease stress.
Success is measured and defined in many ways to many people. No matter how you define success, I imagine your health has a lot to do with it. As you practice taking time for yourself in meditation or yoga, you will discover just how beneficial and empowering those 15 minutes a day of self-worth can be for your overall business of family success.
