Whenever I see a headline that screams ‘New Hope’ for heart disease patients, I have to admit that I cringe just a little bit. It’s not that I don’t want heart disease patients to have the best care with the greatest chance of recovery, it’s that I don’t trust the drug companies. Around EraseDisease.com, we promote healthy alternatives to prescriptions and medications. And while blood pressure medications are sometimes the only way to go, I fear that articles and drugs named the ‘New Hope’ will give heart disease patients and individuals with high blood pressure an excuse for not taking control of their lifestyle.
LCZ696 – Enalapril
According to WebMD.com, the trial to study the effectiveness of the new blood pressure-lowering medication known as Enalapril was halted early because of it’s extreme effectiveness.
According to the study authors, the trial was stopped early because of the marked benefit of the new drug, dubbed LCZ696.
In the trial, 26.5 percent of those getting the standard medication, enalapril (Vasotec), either died or were hospitalized due to heart failure, compared with 21.8 percent of those on the new drug. Enalapril belongs to a class of blood pressure-lowering medications known asACE inhibitors.
“LCZ696 could become the new gold standard, replacing ACE inhibitors,” said lead researcher Dr. John McMurray, a professor of cardiology at the British Heart Foundation Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Glasgow, in Scotland.
The article goes on to state that it’s been “many years” since a new drug has emerged for the treatment of heart failure.
How Do ACE Inhibitors Work
ACE inhibitors, also known as Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors, work to prevent the body from producing Angiotensin II, an element that narrows your blood vessels and raises blood pressure. By preventing your body from producing Angiotensin II, ACE Inhibitors can help you keep your blood pressure under control.
Now, first off let me just say that there are plenty of reasons, legitimate reasons, why your physician would want you on ACE Inhibitors. If you are prescribed a blood pressure medication to help you control your high blood pressure and hopefully prevent a heart attack, do what they tell you!
But here at EraseDisease.com, we like to look on the positive and alternative side of prescription medication for heart disease. With lifestyle changes and natural solutions to high blood pressure, you can absolutely prevent heart attack or stroke without prescription medication.
