One of the main types of exercising that has shown to improve the intensity and frequencies of hot flashes, as well as improve sleep, is yoga.


Healthy Eating

Eating foods that contain proteins and healthy fats, as well as consuming a lot of vegetables is important for women when they start to approach menopause. Foods that contain flaxseed and phytoestrogens in whole grain foods and beans have been known to act as a weak form of estrogen, which will help relief some of the symptoms associated with menopause. Avoiding foods and drinks that contain sugar, caffeine, and alcohol is vital because they can increase the intensity of hot flashes. Avoid coffee, caffeine-containing drinks, and spicy foods because these items can actually trigger hot flashes. Instead, try and consume herbal teas and drink lots of water. When going through menopause you will want to also avoid consuming a large amount of carbs, due to the fact that a woman during menopause is prone to weight gain, carbs are loaded with a lot of unwanted calories that will only increase the weight gain.


Stress Relief

When women are going through menopause they deal with a lot of stress. This is because their hormones are off balance, which makes them develop symptoms of anxiety, insomnia, and depression. By adding stress to the equation, you are actually making these symptoms worse; it is bad cycle that seems to never end. It is important to engage in an activity that reduces your stress level. For example, some women might find that exercising, acupuncture, meditation, or even reading a book is a way for them to relax, get their minds off of things, focus on their breathing and themselves, and just relieve the stress.

There are some herbs that a woman can take in order to help relieve and ease some of the menopause symptoms. Black cohosh has been known to provide a safe alternative to synthetic hormones, which will ease mood swings, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, and irritability. Ginkgo Biloba has been shown to improve mental alertness in women. Dong quai, which is also referred to as female ginseng, and sage leaf extract, are known to relieve the symptoms of hot flashes and night sweats.
