The circulatory system includes the network of blood vessels and organs that supply nutrients, blood, oxygen, and hormones to the cells of the body. It is comprised of the heart, the arteries, arterioles, veins, and capillaries. Each component of the circulatory system has its own unique job, and works with the other components so that the whole system functions properly.
The heart beats on average 90,000 times per day, and when the heart beats it expels blood into the arteries which send blood to all parts of the body. The arteries branch into smaller tubes which are called arterioles and finally become capillaries. In the arterioles, the speed of blood flow is altered by chemical sensors that respond based on changing conditions in the body. The capillaries feed blood to every part of the body.
When the heart beats there is a force that is generated. The force presses on the walls of the arteries, and this force propels the blood throughout the body. The measurement of the force against the walls of the arteries is blood pressure. Normal blood pressure is 120mm systolic and 80mm diastolic. High blood pressure is considered to be a minimum of 130/85mm.
Blood pressure measurements that are consistently higher than 140/90mm is a medical condition called hypertension. Hypertension is a dangerous condition, and it is usually treated with blood pressure lowering medication. However, there are supplements that can lower high blood pressure such as arginine. Arginine is becoming a popular supplement to lower high blood pressure, and arginine can also maintain a regular blood pressure. Arginine is usually taken in combination with other supplements that are known to benefit the circulatory system.
Arginine is converted into nitric oxide in the body. Taking supplemental arginine ensures that the body always has a readily available supply of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide relaxes the blood vessels and allows blood to flow with less resistance. Less resistance to blood flow means that blood pressure is lowered.
A deficiency in arginine and nitric oxide is a common problem that many people might have but aren’t aware of. Arginine supplements can correct a nitric oxide deficiency, and arginine has many other scientifically proven benefits to the circulatory system. Those with high blood pressure and potentially high blood pressure can supplement with arginine to attempt to reduce their blood pressure naturally, along with other methods.
