Running Apps are all the rage right now, and for good reason. They can help to get you motivated, get you inspired, and get you out of the house and hitting the pavement, or the treadmill. At Erase Disease, we believe that if it motivates you, inspires you to live healthy, and keeps your heart pumping just as our key ingredient l-arginine does, then we’re all for it. I mean, sometimes it takes a little motivation to get out there and run, or walk, or do what you need to do to increase your heart rate and circulation. So, here are some of the best running apps of 2012 that you have to check out.

Getting healthy is not always easy, so getting motivated is a key element in maintaining a healthy heart. Sure, Cardio Juvenate with l-arginine can make a big difference in your heart health, but we will be the first to say that nothing beats staying active, getting moving, and some brisk walking or running. Below are the greatest apps to keep you motivated:
Runkeeper – This app comes both on the Android and iPhone mobile devices. There are free versions and paid-for versions. Runkeeper is awesome in the fact that it keeps track of your distance, speed and route, like many other apps, but it also incorporates how many calories you’ve burned on that run. An added bonus is that it not only works with running, but you can set it to walking, bicycling, rowing, pretty much anything that involves movement, and it will track your calories and pace. It even tracks swimming, skiing, and rollerblading! This is a great heart healthy app to keep you moving.
Get Running – This is a great app for beginners to get you off of the couch and onto the pavement. It integrates some wonderful daily workouts that begin easy and transcend to advanced. Over a 9-week period you will be ‘training’ for a 5k without even realizing it! It’s more like a training coach than any other app we’ve tried, so if you’re looking for long-term motivation for an upcoming 5k, this is the app for you. (PS – a 5k is just over 3 miles).
iMapMyRun – We love this app here at Erase Disease simply because it includes the usual such as pace and distance, but it also includes caloric output, nutritional information and heart rate stats! You know we love that!
Nike+ – I’ve personally used this mobile running app for a few months now, and truly love it. It does the usual stuff, incorporating route, distance, speed and calories, but it also connects to a very integrated website where you can track your history, set goals, set coaching status, and much more. The great thing about Nike Plus GPS app for your phone is the audio clues that tell you how close you are to breaking distance and speed records and history. You can play Tag with other Nike app runners and connect with an entire community of heart healthy individuals.
Zombies, Run! – If you’re looking for something a little bit different, something fun and still motivational, then check out Zombies, Run! This mobile running app is more than just a distance-tracking, calorie-burning app, it places you in a ‘post-apocalyptic’ world where zombies are chasing you as you embark upon life-saving missions. While I haven’t tried it myself, it does sound interesting. And for those who love the Zombie genre, which is extremely popular right now, this game is for you. Hey, whatever keeps your heart rate up and gets you active works for us!
