Sodium is in everything, and you don’t even realize it. In fact, 90% of Americans are getting way too much sodium in their diets, and you have have no idea.

Sodium can lead to high blood pressure and an increased risk for heart attack or stroke. Even with a supplement like L-Arginine, and daily exercise, having too much sodium in your diet could be deadly.

But, there are some things that you can do to help cut back on sodium and lower blood pressure…

Meats: You might not realize it, but poultry is injected with some form of sodium. If the packaging says “sodium” or even “broth,” beware….there is added sodium in that “healthy” chicken.

Avoid Salty Condiments: That means all condiments. Things like ketchup, mustard and mayonaisse are full of sodium. Look for a reduced sodium or no-sodium option. If you use condiments on a daily basis, consider cutting them out, or at least cutting them back as much as possible.

Pre-Packaged Foods: Anything that is not fresh will have added sodium. Salt is added to any pre-packaged foods in order to keep those foods on the shelf longer. The longer an item can sit on the shelf, the lower the cost for food manufacturers.

Always compare labels and look for hidden sodium words like “broth,” as well as baking soda,  monosodium glutamate (MSG), disodium phosphate or just, plain salt.
